Inter-Computer Magic
It seems to me that with all these talented computer programmers jammed into one club, it ought to have a kick-ass website. This doesn't mean flashy, overdone special effects, but it does mean something better than a huge banner that takes up 245 pixels (I counted), is on every single page, and which shows information that is stagnant. At the very least, moving the banner to the end of the page when other content is present would fix a lot.
I came across this article that seemed interesting: http://spyrestudios.com/jquery-tutorials-plugins-impress-your-friends/. As I recall, this website uses Drupal, which from my limited research comes with jquery already bundled in. I have a few favorites, which I will list for no other reason than because I like to make lists of things.
- Fading Header - could fade between ACM logo and NAU logo. Perhaps
- Sexy Drop-down Menu - we already have drop-downs, why not make them sexy?
- Sliding Login Panel - logging in right now feels... clunky. Like I'm about to be presented with a black screen covered in vaguely verdant text
- Smart Columns - could be useful somewhere
Now, I've never used drupal, and I don't know how hard it would be to get these implemented. Some may be impractical, others impossible. I would hope that drupal is the kind of system that helps the developer instead of getting in the way, but I have no way of knowing. At the very least, I hope to inspire a little creativity.
